Projects, Portfolios, and the PPMO
What is the Portfolio and Project Management Office (PPMO)
The PPMO is a group of core staff members with expertise in project, program, and portfolio management representing multiple departments. Our goal is to ensure the right resources are working on the right projects at the right time.
What the PPMO does:
The Portfolio and Project Management Office (PPMO) provides the primary services
- Project, Program, and Portfolio Management: The PPMO will partner with you to oversee and manage projects to completion. The office will assist in the coordination of multiple projects and other work as needed that work towards a strategic goal
- Assign Projects: Approved projects from ESAC will be assigned a project manager, who will manage the project. The project will also be prioritized based on resource availability, urgency of the project, and other constraints.
- Training and Tools: Members of the PPMO may conduct training for the campus community to help improve the effectiveness of daily operations and other initiatives. The PPMO also provides a methodology framework and in most cases, templates, to assist you with planning, documenting, communicating, or just keeping you organized.
The PPMO adheres to Project Management Institute (PMI) methodology and values
Why do we need a PPMO
Library and Information Technology (L&IT) provides a variety of services for students, staff, and faculty throughout the year. Much of this work ensures our network and software systems are secure and up-to-date, provides instructional technology assistance and training, delives library services, and keeps operational tasks across campus running smoothly.
Projects represent a portion of the work done by L&IT. The PPMO ensures that projects from the Enterprise Systems Advisory Committee (ESAC) and other sources are implemented successfully, and in a timely manner to support the strategic goals of the College.
How does the Portfolio and Project Management Office (PPMO) handle projects?
Projects that come to the PPMO are evaluated for complexity and urgency. Small projects with a low degree of IT complexity may begin sooner, whereas large, complex projects with a high degree of IT requirements may need more effort to prioritize, plan, and schedule.
I have a technology need; what now?
The first step is to submit a project request. From there, feel free to reach out to any member of the PPMO or ESAC for guidance. We are here to assist!
